Improper Window Installation

Are you in the process of getting new windows installed in your home or business? Your new windows are only as good as their installation. Typically, manufacturers will not cover the warranty on windows that have not been properly installed. We will help you identify warning signs of faulty installation so you can keep your contractor honest and make sure they fix anything they may have installed incorrectly.

Quality installation is easy to spot. Your new windows will work properly and look great from the interior and exterior of your home. Improperly installed windows will provide warning signs that are easy to spot. Below are some of the more common signs your windows were not installed correctly.

Warning Signs of Improper Window Installation

Visible Gaps Between the Frame and Sill

Prior to any installation a professional window installation company will measure each window to make sure they have the correct dimensions prior to ordering. If a window is installed and you see visible gaps between the frame and sill, the window was improperly measured. I would speak with the window manufacturer regarding their policies on window returns due to contractor error.

Feel Drafts or Visible Water Damage

A properly functioning and installed window will not let air or water pass through it. If you feel a draft when walking by your window clearly there is something wrong. It is more than likely due to a lack of insulation and/or improper installation. Also, if you see water entering your home, spotting, puddling, mold, stained drywall, or foul odors contact a Jacksonville window installation company ASAP.

Windows Not Opening or Closing

Newly installed windows should open and close easily. If a window was not measured correctly or installed properly then opening and closing can be difficult. If you are noticing these issues soon after installation, reach out to your manufacturer to address the issue while they are still covered under warranty.

Poor Caulking

Weather proofing your windows will require caulking around the exterior of the window, minus the bottom edge. This is left un-caulked for ventilation and moisture. If your contractor has an uneven, messy, or spotty layer of caulk then this is a red flag. I would have them address this prior to paying them any remaining balance due.

Foggy Windows

Are you noticing condensation appear between your window panes? If his has occurred your window was not properly installed or the seal failed. If you are experiencing condensation buildup, reach out to your window installer so they can inspect your window to see if it is a defect, or re-install it properly per the manufacturer’s guidelines.
